从三峡全长七百里中看,两岸山都是相连的,没有中断的地方.山岭重重叠叠,连绵不断,把太阳光和天空都遮蔽了.如果不是正午晚上,绝看不到太阳和月亮.
到了夏天洪水暴涨满上山冈的时候,无论是上行还是下行,都被阻绝了.有时皇帝的诏书急需传达,那么,从白帝到江凌,虽有一千二百里之多,早上出发,晚上便到,即使乘飞奔的马,驾者烈风也没这样快.
