Where to live —in the City or in the Country
Some people like living in the city because city life has many advantages. They think there are more job opportunities in cities, life there is more colorful and meaningful than that in the country, and there are more modern conveniences in cities for people to enjoy.
But some other people prefer to live in the countryside. They say life in the countryside is closer to nature and better for their health, life there is quieter and that country people are more honest than city people.
I would like to live in a city when I am young to earn enough money and I live in the countryside when I am old for having a quite life.
Pollution, now, becomes a world wide problem. Air, rivers even soil may do harm to animals and plants.
There's an example in our daily life:As the increasing number of cars, we can only see cars on the roads. Yes, it may make everyone convenient, but the air may also polluted by this. what was worse, it seems that people have not realized it. The waste water poured by factories, causes deaths of fish. but the managers likely haven't seen this, what they are thinking is all about the profit. If this continues, not only the fish but also the human beings' life would be changed. the life wouldn't be colorful anymore.so I hope government could take measures to prevent the scary scene come to our life. The goverment could do their best to control pollution, clean envirenment, keep the balance of the eco-system.
at last, I hope everyone could make their own contribution to the beautiful home, for everyone could see the smile of our common mother, the earth
Soon, more of us will be living in cities than in rural areas. Population experts at the United Nations had thought that would happen by this year. Lately their estimate is that in 2008, for the first time in history, more than half of the world population will be in urban areas.
The United Nations Population Fund just released its yearly "State of World Population" report. Researchers say three-and-a-third billion people will be living in urban areas next year. By 2030, the estimate is almost 5 billion. The fastest growth will be in Asia and Africa.
Poor people will make up most of the urban growth. And natural increase will be the main cause of that growth, not migration from rural areas. The report says mega-cities of more than 10 million people have not grown to the sizes once expected. Most growth is expected instead in smaller towns and cities.
The experts urge governments to improve social services and city planning policies. For example, the report calls for better land use so poor people do not have to live in slums. Today, an estimated one billion live in these often polluted and dangerous environments. 90% of the people are in developing countries.
