Yesterday morning I switched on the TV to find yet another unsolved case of robbery.Apparently,the biggest diamond of Elizabeth the second's crown has gone missing.just as I was enjoying my daily toast while watching the news reporter blab on about this mysterious robber,my phone rang,and I had a curious feeling that I knew who's on the other side of the phone.
‘Smith,I need your help’
Of course,who else would it be at this time of the day?‘Hang on,old friend; I’ll be there in a sec’
I grabbed my coat and went there in a flash.My old buddy,Sergeant Taylor gave a breath of relief when he saw me,‘thank god you are here,Smith’.
‘Tis my pleasure,John.’
I scanned the report quickly since I couldn’t go in to investigate:the museum is full of armed police.Three pieces of evidence quickly caught my eye:a mysterious short hair that did not show any human DNA,the small but perfect hole on the glass,and the design of infrared light.
‘I think I know who’s our mysterious robber,John.’
‘So fast?’
I gave a smile,‘I think you know him,or shall we call it?’
Taylor threw his hand up with exasperation,‘god,Timothy Smith just spit it out.’
‘It’s our famous doctor Peterson.’
‘So Doctor Peterson is the criminal?How?the gaps in the infrared light do not allow a bulky middle aged man!’
‘Yes,but it allows his little friend in,doesn’t it?’
‘You mean… his pet mouse Kim?’ he said incredulously.
Doctor Peterson is a famous mouse lover,since he keeps his beloved Kim in his office every day.But this isn’t enough to prove that he is guilty.Yet his boastfulness made him praise his pet’s talent of climbing smooth surfaces such as glass,for example or,using its teeth to draw a perfect circle.‘Search the glass again,there should be tiny chips here and there caused by Kim’s claws,or just check Kim’s hair.’
Of course,we caught the criminal as he tries to smuggle the diamond out in his hat.As always,I solved the crime with Taylor’s careful observation skills and saved the day again.
